International student/young alumni ambassadors

In September 2016, the Faculty of Economics and Business launched the brand new concept of the international student/young alumni ambassadors. They are motivated volunteers who feel the urge to help other (prospective) students based on their own experiences. For example, ambassadors can answer questions that prospective students may have about scheduling, social events, sports or life on campus in general. They are also involved in brainstorm sessions in order to optimize the international experience for our students at the different campuses. At the moment FEB is collaborating with 19 ambassadors (15 nationalities).

Peter Teirlinck, Vice Dean for International Affairs: “We want our international students to feel at home at the Faculty of Economics and Business, right from the moment they start their study career with us. Student ambassadors provide feedback to prospective and newly arriving international students helping to smooth their integration and to set the right expectations and make clear the study requirements for our education programs. Our young alumni ambassadors help students in our international master programs to prepare for and to find their way to the national and international labor market, contributing to FEB’sCareer Corner activities. FEB’s international ambassadors initiative nicely complements the KU Leuven central chapters initiative targeting networking and connecting KU Leuven international alumni in 11 regions.”

TESTIMONIAL LAURA HALEYDT

I was incredibly flattered to get the opportunity to become a young alumni ambassador after successfully completing my MBA studies at FEB campus in Brussels.

Why might you ask? Well, firstly, I am simply a proud alumnus and am thankful for the many opportunities KU Leuven has offered me over the past years. Studying abroad in the USA, then Paris, getting support for my projects such as Brussels MEU (Model European Union) and MUN (Model United Nations) conferences, an inspiring study visit to London, an internship thanks to the Faculty’s network or simply the chance to follow the Honours Programme of KU Leuven. Honestly, the list is long. If you want to make a difference, if you want to engage in projects, FEB is the place to do all of this.

Then, secondly, because I believe we should help one another. All of us alumni have gone to the same faculty, went through recognizable struggles and also enjoyed the great student life on campus. Therefore, I believe it's only natural we help one another with providing each other some insights when possible.

To top it off, FEB also hosts many different nationalities and cultures, something I personally always loved about my university and even more something I want to stay close to.

In a nutshell, the ambassador program is there to accommodate those that have questions, brainstorm on points our faculty needs to improve on, drive ideas, make connections or simply make the prospective, as well as current students, feel at home when studying in Belgium.
